Anapest


n.

A metrical foot consisting of three syllables, the first two short, or unaccented, the last long, or accented (˘ ˘ -); the reverse of the dactyl . In Latin d&ebreve_;-&ibreve_;-tās , and in English in-ter-vene" , are examples of anapests.
